What's the difference between UV laser and Fiber laser engraving machine?

Fiber Laser marking machine and UV Laser Marking machines,the both machines can engrave a lot of materials, plastics, leather, metals, and others. However, whats the main difference and why one is much more expensive than the other?Here we are going to explain whats the difference between these two technologies and what are their primary use. 



1.Laser generator

UV laser marking machine:

It is developed with 355nm UV laser.

The machine uses third-order cavity frequency multiplication technology compared with infrared laser(fiber laser,Co2 laser). The 355UV light focusing spot is extremely small, which can greatly reduce the mechanical deformation of the material and Small processing thermal effect.

Fiber laser marking machine:

The wavelength is 1064nm.

With regard to the wavelength of laser light, the shorter the wavelength, the smaller and higher accuracy the laser spot, and the smaller the heat affected zone formed during processing, the more exquisite the processing effect. 



2.The basic working principle of laser processing materials:

Infrared laser (Co2 laser and fiber laser marking machine)

The substance of the material surface is heated and vaporized (evaporated) by laser, this way, the material removed, this approach is often referred to “thermal processing”.

In simple words, the main advantage of the fiber laser engraving machine is its capacity of engraving, mark and carve at high speed and the metal materials. The fiber laser also can mark different non-metal materials but the result of the engraving on this materials it is not going to be as well done like with a UV laser machine. However, this is extra points for the fiber laser machines, the capacity to work perfectly over metals and to work over some non-metal materials.   

Whats the disadvantage of the Fiber laser marking machines?

The disadvantage of this machine it comes when we want to engrave non-metal materials. We can’t engrave or mark several materials that the UV it can engrave, like wood, glass, all the plastics, paper, or in general transparent objects. For example, this machine can engrave ABS and PLA both very common plastics in different products. The engraving over this plastic materials it has 5 to 10% of melting when we use the fiber laser machine, this means that when you touch with your finger its possible that you can feel the surface of the engraving just by touch. It is something that will never happen with the UV laser machine engraving.

How-to: Laser Engraving Photo

Today we will tell you how we engrave photos on a laser machine.

When you make the drawing,please save the japge or BMP format.Then you handle the drawing in the photoshop.The step is below.

1.open the drawing,adjust the drawing size,the resolution set into 800-1000,then ok.

2.reopen the drawing,choose the mode,grayscale,then ok

3.open the image-mode-Bitmap-choose the Halftone screen,the frequency is 50-70,the angel is 45,the shape (for the acrylic,it should be round;for the stone,it should be line)

4.Then you input the machine software to let machine work.

And you engrave the materials,the laser power should be less than 30%,we suggest you choose 12-17%.Please not worry,this time it will not happen the missing bits.
